Schedule Clarification for Womens Cup Classes

March 2, 2015 (Wortham, Texas) – There may be some misinformation out there so wanted to take a moment to clear things up.

  1. The WMX Series is the only class that will practice and race on Saturday.
  2. The AMA Womens Cup classes will compete during the entire weeks schedule beginning on Wednesday, March 18th.  Timed practice for the Womens Cup classes will be on Tuesday, March 17th for all Cup amateur classes.  For riders wanting extra time on the track, Freestone Raceway is offering a “Promoter Practice” day on Monday, March 16th.

Just to clarify, the AMA Womens Cup classes are within the races of the entire James Stewart Freestone Spring Championship.  For any other question, feel free to contact Tom Shields at tshields@womensmxcup.com.

FAQ Womens Cup

Many of you are emailing and asking how does this event work?  To try and help with any confusion, imagine there was no AMA Women’s Motocross Cup (WMC).  Take all the classes that are from the Women’s Cup and add them to the James Stewart Spring Championship.  The only difference is that Freestone is offering a place that we can recognize more girls/womens classes than anywhere in the world.  The idea is to help grow the one demographic that has the most potential to grow in the motorcycle industry.  The bonus for the combined classes (Girls Jr, Girls Sr, Womens 14+ and WMX) is the champions from those classes will be invited to the James Stewart Champions Ride Day at his house in November.

Here are some answers to questions that have been circulated:

  • The Womens Cup classes will be placed in the race order of the Spring Championship just like all the other classes.
  • When it comes to organized practice, (as an example) if a WMC rider is on an 85cc bike, then that rider will practice with the 85cc practice group.
  • All WMC classes will be in timed practice on Tuesday and riders will get their gate pick based on lap times in their first moto’s.
  • The WMX will have their timed practice and moto’s all on Saturday.

We hope this has helped.

Open Letter from WMXC

Hello All:

If we could have a moment of your busy day, we would like to take this time to spell out the work we have done thus far to bring the AMA Womens MX Cup to life.

As you may have heard, the AMA Womens Motocross Cup (WMXC) has a new date for 2015.  The event will now be featured in conjunction with the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship at Freestone Raceway from March 16th-21st.

The AMA Spring Championship is part of the American Motocross Championship and as one of “the Majors”, the AMA Womens MX Cup will have full trackside support from all the OEM’s that provide such services.  It is important to note that there are no qualifiers and no additional memberships (other than AMA membership) required to race the event.

On a personal note, myself (Tom Shields) and Tony Miller both have our own motivation to make this happen.  My mother (Maxine Shields) was the first woman to hold a professional “Class C” dirt track license.  Over 50 years ago, she was pregnant with me and was still riding her street bike.  Needless to say, I have been on a motorcycle since before birth.

Tony Miller got involved with motocross when his son decided to start riding in 1996.  When he built Freestone County Raceway (est: 2000) on the family ranch in Texas, Tony offered his land to the public and starting hosting races.  Of course in 2007, a new track was built (Freestone Raceway) for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and every year the Womens Pro series raced, Freestone jumped at the chance to host the round.  Having a grand daughter in 2008 just solidified protecting a place for girls and women amateur racers to have something to call their own.

Currently the WMXC has factory contingency from Honda, KTM and Suzuki.  We are working with Husqvarna, Kawasaki and Yamaha for their support as well.  In 2015, the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship features the Womens Motocross Cup along with the WMX Championship at Freestone Raceway with 42 classes that includes the Loretta national classes.  The Womens MX Cup will have a total of ten (10) classes starting with 51cc all the way to a Womens Vet class.

Much like the Freestone Spring Championship, every WMXC class will get “Timed Practice” on Tuesday and sight laps before every moto.  We are working to renew our LIVE streaming so all your sponsors and family can see what is going on.  Live timing and scoring will also provide much more of the support riders are accustom to at this level.

For more information, stay tuned to www.WomensMXCup.com and follow the social media for the event at:

Plan your calendar now and get ready for an amazing event.  This is one demographic that will help grow the market place and since its beginning with Miki Keller, we are “down for the fight”.  We simply want to provide you with a venue that is located in the middle of the US and quality competition for now and in the future.

Feel free to reply to this email with any questions or ideas.  Also please feel free to share this message with everyone in your class since we do not have everyone’s contact information.

Sincerely,

Tom Shields

Event Director

2015 Womens Cup Date Announced

August 20, 2014 (Wortham, Texas) –  In cooperation with the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship, Freestone Raceway will be featuring the 2015 AMA Womens Motocross Cup (WMXC) from March 16-21.  This new date places the AMA Womens Cup in front of the industry unlike any other time in its history.

Partnering with the Freestone Spring Championship provides the industry OEM’s with trackside support an opportunity to supply every rider with the very best care and attention.  “We are glad to finally have a place that gives the girls and women racers the support they have deserved” said Tom Shields, Marketing Manager for the WMXC.  “We had struggled with a solid date but once we saw that the OEM’s supported this move, it was the logical step to take.  Giving amateur female racers this many classes is the only way to help make a healthy Womens Pro class possible in the future.”

“I am happy to keep this going” said Tony Miller, owner of Freestone Raceway.  “I have a grand daughter that loves riding and she is only six years old now.  I want her to have something to look forward to and if I can help, this is one of the ways to make that a reality.  We hosted the Womens Pro race every year during the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship from 2008 until 2012.  Some of our best races involved Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson and we certainly would like to push it forward once again.”

In 2015, the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship features the Womens MX Cup along with the WMX Championship at Freestone Raceway with 42 classes that includes four Girls/Womens championships.  The Womens MX Cup will have a total of ten (10) classes starting with 51cc all the way to a Womens Vet class.
